Everleigh’s Winter ONEderland & Doljabi Session at Home Studio in Winchester
A very special shoot for a very special girl.
Winter ONEderland
I had so much fun creating this setup for miss Everleigh’s 1 Year Session! Her momma dropped off decorations the day before the shoot and I immediately got to work. Using string lights, window curtains, thumbtacks, the provided decor and a couple items I had around the house, I created this setup in my dining room and had it ready to go when they arrived the next day. Everleigh looked absolutely precious in her blush dress and headband, and we had so much fun being silly and getting her to laugh!
Doljanchi
The second portion of the shoot was a doljanchi. For those who don’t know much about it (like myself), Doljanchi is a Korean tradition that celebrates the first birthday of a baby and blesses the child with a prosperous future. The highlight of the doljanchi is a custom called the doljabi where the child is placed in front of a table of foods and objects such as string, paint or calligraphy brushes, ink, and money. The child is then urged to pick up an object from the table. It is believed the one selected will foretell the child's future.
The birthday girl was put into her hanbok (a traditional Korea costume) and we sat her in front of a variety of items. Her immediate first choice was the dollar bill, then she quickly chose the microphone as well and was totally fixed on those two items. We concluded that it must mean she’s going to grow up to become a famous singer. Just look at how natural she is with the mic!
